Training FAQ
United Divers uses SCUBA Schools International's Comfort Through Repetition teaching method in all pool and confined water sessions.

United Dives modular, six-session teaching system includes a video, manual, study guide, DiveLog and dive tables. And with United Divers home study approach, you will be able to minimize your time in the classroom allowing for more time in the water developing ability and comfort.

United Divers has developed a simple 8-step "Dive Ladder" process to getting you ready for each of your dive qualification classes:

Step (1) Select a diving class at your level. As a full-service dive training provider, we offer several different levels of dive training. Not sure on what class to take? Please stop in, contact us, or give us a call. From Beginner to Master, our team will always be on hand to guide you in finding your best dive training solution.

Step (2) Find the date this class is offered. United Divers posts new class schedules every month to ensure that you have plenty of time to sign up and prepare for your next dive training adventure. Please contact us directly for advanced schedule information.

Step (3) Register for the class. United Divers provides four ways to register. You can either register by phone, register by email, or register by visiting our Somerville facility.

All registrations are considered temporary until final payments have been received.
Classes may be canceled or postponed without warning. In the event of a postponed class, customers have the option of either holding over until the next class without penalty, or have their fee fully reimbursed. In the event that a class is cancelled, customers will always be fully reimbursed.
All potential divers must fill out a medical questionnaire before they will be allowed to participate in any United Divers course. Please check with our staff if you have specific medical needs before attending any class.

Step (4) Buy or rent required equipment for the class. United Divers as a conveniently placed full service retail dive store within our training center. We also provide a equipment rental Rent-To-Own program to help offset the cost of having to buy your own equipment. For all classes provided by United Divers, divers must provide their own mask, fins, snorkel and boots. United Divers will provide all necessary SCUBA equipment to include but not limited to: buoyancy compensator, regulator with gauges, SCUBA tank, weights and weight-belts.

Step (5) Attend the class. This is the fun step in the United Divers' process. Be it weekend, weekday, or private lessons, you will enjoy every class you take at our training center. As we get to know you and your diving needs, please feel free to ask any of our staff for help or guidance on any topic. As a full service dive training center, there are no questions about diving that we will not hesitate to answer. All participants in need to demonstrate effective watermanship and comfort in the water. However, you do not need to be a professional swimmer to participate, comfort in the water is more important.

Step (6) Qualify and graduate from the class. All divers participating in a United Divers' course must be able to demonstrate a certain level of dive competency before an instructor will qualify you. We take our jobs seriously and do not fake or "gun deck" any qualifications. However, if you are unable to complete the course, or have difficultly obtaining the level of skill need for certification, do not fear. The goal of our instructors is to help you complete your training -- even if it takes you a little longer.

Step (7) Receive your certification. Each diver that successfully completes the course and is certified by one of our diving instructors will receive a certificate from United Divers suitable for framing. We also will help you with obtaining your dive certification cards and all legal paperwork required by law.

Step (8) Select a more advanced diving class. Once you've reached your new level in your diving adventure, its time to go even further. And United Divers can help you achieve whatever diving goal you desire with over 30 dive courses to choose from!

United Divers allows children 12 years old and up (known as Junior Divers) to participate and must present a valid Parental Consent Form before they will be allowed to participate in any course. Once certified, Junior Divers must dive with a certified parent, guardian or active dive leader to a maximum depth of 40 feet.  Junior divers may upgrade to the Open Water Diver level at age 15 by simply diving with a dive leader and completing an oral or written knowledge review.

At United Divers, safety is our number one concern. So for your safety and ours, all potential divers must complete a Medical Questionnaire PRIOR to participation in any United Divers course. Training instructors will determine if you will require a physician’s approval before attending a diving course. If you have any questions regarding our medical screening process or have any privacy concerns, please contact us for more information.

All divers must provide their own mask, fins, snorkel and boots. United Divers will provide all the Scuba Equipment: Buoyancy Compensator, Regulator with gauges, Scuba tank, weights and weight-belts for pool sessions.
