Scuba Rangers is a Scuba
Club and
Educational Camp for kids between the ages of 8 and 12. Scuba Rangers
gives kids the knowledge and skills required to be a safe scuba diver,
while encouraging them to have fun. As a Scuba Ranger, kids can Scuba
Dive in a pool with real diving equipment made just for them! And,
that's not all; after they complete the Scuba Ranger program, there are
several Specialty Ranger programs available to keep them active. Check
out the official Scuba Rangers web site at www.ScubaRangers.com.

Parents'
Commitment
It
is important that the kids arrive on time and be picked up on time for
each session. They will need to commit to all the dates on
the schedule (of course we understand sickness or emergencies); it is
difficult for us to reschedule any missed sessions. All
Rangers need to arrive with all their snorkeling equipment, swimsuits,
and towel and change in time for class.
Continuing
Education
After
Demo Ranger,
the kids can join
the
Scuba Ranger Club and the fun really begins. There are
several Ranger Specialties for them to try, such as Night Ranger,
Navigation Ranger and Maze Ranger. These involve learning new
scuba skills and using cool stuff like underwater lights and
compasses. Some Ranger specialties do not involve
diving. With Civics Ranger, for instance, you get rewards for
community involvement and doing nice things for others. The
ultimate honor is Master Ranger, which is 15 Specialties, plus
participation in five Scuba Rangers Club Events.
Our
Mission
The mission of
Scuba Rangers is simple: to involve children in scuba diving and pass
along the excitement of water exploration.
Our goal is for thousands and thousands of kids to develop a long-term affinity with the sport of scuba diving by the time they are 12 years old. The intent is that when they become adults, and are making recreational decisions, they will retain the affinity for scuba diving and pursue it as their passion.
As a children's outreach organization, the Scuba Rangers has a responsibility to promote good values. To keep it simple and fun, we've designed the Scuba Ranger Star, which defines the five points of a successful Scuba Ranger:

·
Proper
Knowledge: Rangers must learn the rules of responsible
diving.
·
Proper Skills: Rangers must
learn and practice the basic scuba skills.
· Proper
Equipment: Rangers must learn to use basic scuba
equipment,
and should own snorkeling equipment, and properly maintain and care for
all equipment.
·
Proper Experience:
Rangers should maintain diving proficiency, dive within their limits,
and continue to learn more about scuba and water exploration.
·
Responsibility: Rangers should honor their
responsibilities
to their families, their community, the environment, and themselves.
The Scuba Rangers
Pledge is recited at each Club event, to reinforce the values of Scuba
Rangers.
"As a Scuba Ranger and a member of the diving
community, I pledge to have fun, continue my diving education, protect
the aquatic environment, dive responsibly, and participate in my
community, my family and my future in a positive way."
NOTE:
Scuba
Rangers are NOT open water certified Scuba Divers. The scuba portion of
this program is designed to teach and make your Ranger comfortable and
safe using scuba under the direct supervision of a Ranger leader in a
pool environment only.
While some certification agencies advocate the certifying of 10 year old children in scuba, we the instructors of United Divers, in conjunction with our chosen training agencies, maintain that the minimum age of 12 is a good and strong tradition.
Scuba Ranger Friends

Captain
Kelp - The Leader of the Scuba Rangers
When a tanker
carrying hair gel spilled its cargo into the Kelp Forest off the coast
of California, a mysterious chemical reaction occurred and Captain Kelp
was born. He is the leader of the Scuba Rangers, and although he owes
his existence to man's carelessness, he is an advocate for cleaner
oceans and conservation.

Spinner -
Spinner is the Tasmanian
Devil of the Ocean, whirl pooling her way through the deep searching
for fun. Spinner is always looking for a few adventurous Scuba Rangers
to play her games.

Puffer
-
A real Rodney Dangerfish, Puffer gets
no respect. She has a nervous nature and might inflate at any moment.
She is the epitome of bad buoyancy and tells herself constantly to
"Stay calm and never hold your breath!

Sergeant
Major - The Commandant of the Scuba Rangers
After
serving in the Second Caribbean War, Sergeant Major now earns his
stripes as the commandant of the Scuba Rangers. He enforces the most
important rules of diving, so keep your chest out and suck in those
regulators.

Hammer
Head -
The Shark is tough as
nails, and is as hard-headed a fish as you'll ever meet. His
stubbornness always lands him in trouble. So, don't be a Hammerhead
